Meeting Julie in Barcelona

“Let’s pretend we are dancing in the streets in Barcelona” as Ed Sheeran said. Finally, after waiting for like half a year, I was able to dance in the streets in Barcelona, again.

When I was younger I went to Barcelona with my brother and my parents, but of course, I could not remember anything. I went there without an image. Oh, maybe first I should tell you why I went to Barcelona. Barcelona was my first destination of this summer. Julie, a French friend of mine is doing her internship there and because after we will go together to Italy, I thought that it is nice to first go to Barcelona for a week and then fly together to Italy.

When I arrived on Friday the 4th of August it was very warm, I was not used to anything because of the “shitty” weather in the Netherlands. Julie was working the whole day, so I needed to come to her work. I walked from the metro station to her work, then from there on, I walked to her apartment and then back to her work to give back the key. The first day was kind of an adventure, I walked 21 km, but in general, I was very happy to see Julie again after 2 years.

During the weekend we went to Tibidabo and La Sagrada Familia. Wow, what are those places amazing. I am still impressed, especially by La Sagrada Familia. All the colours together give such a special atmosphere. While Julie showed me the way through the city, we also went to La Boqueria and during the evening we went to the fountain show. It took around 45 minutes and we were totally wet because we were standing very close, but it was all worth it.

For the rest of the week, we mainly both went our own ways because Julie needed to work from 8:90 until 17:00 every day. Two times I went the whole day to the beach, not going into the water was impossible because it was far too hot. Gladly, both times I was laying close to a Dutch couple. They paid attention to my stuff while I was in the water, trying to cool down. Another day I went shopping and took a run. Really I love shopping in Barcelona, especially the shops/brands which are not famous in the Netherlands because you see things you have never seen before. I also went one night to a Flamingo Show at Palau de la Música. It lasted for 1,5 hour and I literally loved it.

The whole week the weather was very nice, expect one day, on Tuesday. It was raining so so hard the whole time, Julie was free that day but I did not want to stay at home, so I went out for a lunch at Brunch&Cake. Unfortunately, I only made videos of my dish because it was the best banana pancakes I have ever eaten. Although I was still soaked, I went through the city to take some good shots with my camera. I also went to Park Güell I only forgot to buy tickets, so when I came there all the tickets were already sold out. Without a ticket, I could actually still see a lot, especially everything around the park.

On the last day, I went to Museu Nacional D’Art de Catalunya, which is divided into different times from the history. There was modern art, the Renaissance, etc. I did not see everything because after 45 minutes of walking around looking at paintings I kind of got bored. But mom I did some cultural things besides shopping all the time.

Sunday morning at 6:30 was our flight to Florence and because we needed to leave Julie’s apartment Saturday morning before 10, we decided not to rent another room for that short night and sleep at the airport. We put our suitcases in a locker close to where the bus would leave to the airport. We went to a park because after 3 hours of sleep because of partying and another short night coming we needed some extra sleep. Around 9 o’clock in the evening, we went to the airport and searched for a quiet place where we could sleep.

Since I lived/studied in England in 2015-2016 I have a desire to travel around, to visit my International friends and have the feeling of being on an adventure every day. This year has changed me and the way I want to continue to live my life. I have become more aware of my dreams and am trying to follow them every day in order to make the most of my life.
